A volunteer who will be responsible for writing articles and taking photographs of activities and projects going on around the Ranch and with NPH in general.

AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The main task of the Communication Officer (CO) is to provide the public, NPH International and the fundraisers in the United States and Europe with any required information. The responsibilities of the CO include the NPH home's annual country report, the annual European report, optional digital or print newsletters, Web site articles, calendar updates, directory updates, photos and, in some homes, project coordination.
The CO needs the necessary skills to operate the NPHI Intranet, intermediate computer skills, solid English writing ability and native country language skills (Spanish or Creole). Experience in journalism and photography is an advantage, as is some graphic design experience and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
The CO is a required position in every NPH home. The position is required by the fundraisers and NPH International to invest in the responsibility for information dissemination on a timely and regular basis. This information is critical for the fundraisers who provide the resources necessary for operations. Systems have been created to monitor the completion of these requirements.
The CO is also the photojournalist of the home, documenting all home events, including graduations, public relation events, holidays (Easter, Christmas, New Year´s), special days (Visitors´ Day, quinceañeros, baptisms, First Holy Communions, retreats, etc.).The CO also periodically accompanies the home’s Social Worker to report on where our children come from. The CO is responsible for uploading recent photos of all categories to the Photo Gallery on the NPHI Intranet, writing photo captions and publishing the best photos to the website.
In the Dominican Republic and El Salvador, the CO is responsible for supplying all documentation about projects in the home that need outside funding on both the NPHI Intranet and the international website. The CO makes sure that all information is complete and up-to-date, adds new projects, updates existing information, provides project reports and archives completed or expired projects. Often the request for information, statistics and accompanying photos is urgent. The CO will be the primary contact for the fundraisers in each individual home and it is the responsibility of the CO to obtain the information or work together with the appropriate staff to acquire it.

Working hours vary per home but might range from: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Responsibilities (may vary per home)
- Website article development, which includes writing articles and uploading accompanying photo
- MyGoodShop article development (schedule and topics provided by NPH Germany)
- Photographing all home events
- Newsletter development (optional)
- Creating marketing and PR materials
- Support Godparent office with photography of new children and yearly photo of each child (depends on home)
- Investigate and write annual reports
- Submit bi-annual statistics
- Project Coordination (currently Dominican Republic and El Salvador)
- Directory updates

Each volunteer chooses a hogar (group of children of the same age living together) at the beginning of their year. This has been described as the most fulfilling part of volunteering, the bond and relationships formed with their hogar of children. Each home’s Volunteer Coordinator will communicate the expectations for hogar time. Usually, it is six days a week, 6 to 8 p.m., but this might vary per home.
When the caregivers leave for the holidays, during the two weeks from the middle to the end of December (Christmas included) and during three days for Holy Week, all the volunteers stop their “normal” jobs in order to work as substitute caregivers in their section. Depending on the home, there will be other obligations.
All NPH volunteers receive room and board, access to medical care and a monthly stipend. Volunteers pay for their transportation to and from the home and medical insurance. Volunteers must serve for at least one year.
