Resource Teacher (For our primary and/or secondary school students) from Jul 16, 2017 - 1 job for 13 months in NPH Bolivia. Urgent!

We would like one volunteer to help tutor our primary school students and one volunteer to help tutor our secondary school students. For our primary school students, the volunteer would practice basic reading and math skills with the children. For our secondary school students, the volunteer would help the children with their homework and explain difficult concepts to them. Ideally, we would like someone with a background in science or math to tutor our secondary school students.

Aula de Recursos (Resource Room) is a program in which a volunteer can take a child out of their regular classroom to work one-on-one or in a small group to concentrate specifically on that child’s needs. The idea is to tutor a child who has learning disabilities or motivational problems. The Aula de Recursos volunteer is a patient teacher who can slow the pace of introducing ideas and teach with different perspectives, while giving personal attention. This helps promote the educational and self-esteem levels of the child.

Aula de Recursos teachers often find their students to be difficult in both temperament and capability. The basic role of the Aula de Recursos is to help students catch up to their classmates scholastically, but more importantly it is to give the child a sense of self worth and belief that they can achieve their goals. Working with students individually or in small groups gives the volunteer a chance to get to know the children plus assist them in their own learning disabilities.

The schedule for Aula de Recursos teachers is similar to that of the other teachers in the school. They work from 7:30am until 1:00pm three days a week. They remove students from their regular classrooms three times a week for half an hour sessions. Two days a week the teachers stay at school until 4:00pm to work with one student individually.
