In the warm and peaceful coastal town of San Vicente de Cañete, two hours south of the capital, Lima, resides the eighth NPH home, Casa Santa Rosa. Over 100 children live in the brick family style homes, which include hot water solar technology. Since the home began in 2004, this family has lived in two other areas of Peru, finally settling in their current location of 15 hectares in 2011.
NPH Peru started its volunteer program in June 2007 and volunteers have been a key part of the homes growth since then. We are currently seeking zealous, animated and dynamic individuals to join our NPH Peru family to work closely with local staff and our children.
We can have up to six volunteers in our volunteer community. We only accept volunteers in January, and ask them to work at the home for a period of 13 months. All volunteers must be at least 21-years-old and should have at least a medium level of Spanish. We can recommend in-country language schools to help you improve your Spanish before beginning your service.
Currently we do not accept married couples and unfortunately we do not have housing for volunteer families.
NPH Peru is one of the smaller NPH families, and is a place where our dedicated staff of 40 professionals looks after over 100 children. The home is about three hours south of Lima and is adjacent to the town, which has access to all major services such as banks, supermarkets and bus stations. They are within 15 minutes of a walking distance.
Our volunteers have their own house with three bedrooms and each is shared by two volunteers of the same sex. There are two shared bathrooms, and also a community living room and kitchen.
We expect our volunteers to participate in the home’s activities, events and holidays and become a member of our family. Outside of the specific job position, all volunteers also dedicate time after work each night and every other weekend to working with the children in their homes.
Working at NPH Peru will require the volunteer to be very flexible, open-minded, arrive with a positive attitude and with a willingness to jump in where needed. Most volunteers will be employed for a specific skill but will also be asked to contribute in other areas. The purpose of the volunteer program is to provide support to the existing staff at our home.
